Dr. Daniel Gibson, Psy.D.
As a provider, Dr. Gibson has a strong foundation in learning theory, which helps him
approach each patient/client from a non-biased perspective—empowering the
client/patient to understand guiding principles that will help them achieve and
maintain their values and goals in life. His treatment approach utilizes interventions
found within an Acceptance-Based Cognitive Behavioral Theory (CBT). His
approach is well received from clients/patients from all backgrounds, lifestyles, and
belief systems, and they describe Dr. Gibson as compassionate, knowledgeable,
and empowering.
As the owner and Clinical Director of GPS, Dr. Gibson knew from the beginning of
his professional journey that he would return to his native Idaho to organize and
provide the community with the healthcare services they deserve. He believes in
order to accomplish this lofty task; the organization must have a strong foundation.
This strong foundation comes from establishing a clear mission/set of values; while
hiring and training passionate, innovative, and most importantly, empathetic
providers who desire to meet each unique individual where they are at and guide
them where they want to go. Currently he has organized GPS Psychology & Anxiety
Clinic, offering full psychological and neuropsychological testing, several specialty
treatment options for individuals, families and groups that include innovative (e.g.,
bio and neurofeedback, virtual reality, etc.) with evidenced-based treatments guiding
every clinical decision. His team is also establishing a Developmental Disability
Agency and an agency providing vocational rehabilitation services, which are both
currently under the certification process.
Professional Background:
Dr. Gibson is a licensed clinical psychologist here in the State of Idaho. He attended doctoral school at Pacific University he completed his
dissertation in 2014, titled “Is there an APP for that: Parenting Styles Influence on Children’s Electronic Media Exposure.” In addition to work in
Portland at anxiety centers, he later joined the Air Force, working as a clinical psychologist being stationed in Washington, D.C. and Spokane. He has
now come back to Idaho to start services. His office is called: GPS Psychology & Anxiety Clinic, located in Meridian. Additionally, Dr. Gibson has
taught Psychopathology online at Our Lady of the Lake University’s Maser of Social Work program for the last 6 years and he is now an Adjunct
Faculty at BSU.
He started his behavioral health career in 2003, working with children and adults in their homes, schools, workplaces, and community for
approximately 5 years. He then worked for DHW Child Protection for approximately 3 years as a Case Manager, Safety Investigator, Family Group
Decision Making Facilitator, and Foster Youth Educator at Regions 3 and 4. During this time, he obtained a Bachelor of Social Work degree with a
Minor in Leadership Studies and a Master of Social Work degree from Boise State University.
While serving his clients, Dr. Gibson noticed a need for healthcare services that are client/patient-centered and set out to continue his knowledge,
training, and experience by pursuing a Master and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Pacific University Health Professions Campus in Hillsboro, OR;
additionally, he completed the competitive 4-year, Organization and Business Consulting. During his time, he worked in psychology clinics, community
mental health clinics, group homes for troubled youth, and was chosen to be on the competitive Anxiety/OCD/Trauma Team, working under world
renown specialists in the treatment and research of those who battle with anxiety-related disorders.
Dr. Gibson was awarded the U.S. Air Force Health Professions and entered Active Duty status as a Captain. He completed his 5th year doctoral
internship at Malcolm Grow Medical and Surgery Center, Joint Base Andrews. There he was offered un-parallel training at the “U.S. President’s base,”
conducting several special duty evaluations, to include Presidential Support Personnel, NSA staff, and other special duty/forces personnel. He was
also chosen to work at the Pentagon/Defense Health Headquarters, being apart of the annual Suicide Prevention Working Group with the
top specialists throughout the nation and was also a part of several working groups to further the Nation’s healthcare, working with the top leaders of
the country, to include the US Congress.
After completing his doctoral training/Air Force Clinical Psychology Residency, Dr. Gibson was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base where he
worked as a: 1) Clinical Psychologist conducting special duty evaluations, psychological testing, bio and neurofeedback adjunctive treatment, and
provided psychotherapy for service members and their families; 2) Behavioral Health Consultant (BHOP) within the primary care setting—following the
Patient-Centered Medical Home Model of care; 3) Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment (ADAPT) Program Manager/Element Chief,
overseeing the treatment, outreach, and prevention efforts for the entire base; 4) Disaster Mental Health Element Chief overseeing a large staff and
ensuring regular training and response for all crises at Fairchild AFB. Additionally, since early 2013 he continues to work as an Adjunct Professor of Social
Work through Our Lady of the Lake University’s Master of Social Work online program, teaching Crisis Intervention, Human Behavior in the
Social Environment, and Psychopathology to MSW Graduate Students from all over the world.
Dr. Gibson then chose to transition from active duty military life to be close to his family and begin his long-time goal of starting GPS in August 2018.
He is passionate about taking all he has learned throughout his career to healthcare services that are needed and innovative. GPS will grow from
providing an array of psychological services to an integrated healthcare agency that follows the Patient-Centered Medical Model of care.
