My background:
I am a Family Nurse Practitioner with a focus on mental health. My
career in the medical field started as an LPN working in a behavioral,
skilled nursing facility. Upon graduating with my registered nurse degree,
I continued working as a charge nurse at the same facility before switching
to acute care. I was a RN in an intensive care unit for four years while
furthering my education and eventually graduated with my nurse
practitioner in 2016. I have worked as a primary care provider since then
and over the last year I have worked in behavioral
health as a med manager.
Why mental health:
I worked in a rural family medicine clinic for my first five years as a Nurse
Practitioner. While working in this rural clinic the lack of available mental
health providers with the ability to prescribe and manage medications
became apparent. I quickly became proficient in treating and managing
psychiatric conditions including anxiety, depression, and ADHD. As my
practice grew, I found myself taking on more complex conditions and
developed a passion for behavioral health. I feel I am able to empathize
with individuals Who are suffering from conditions that are real but not
seen in the traditional sense. Due to my experience I decided to focus on
mental health in an effort to make care more accessible to those in need.
What makes me different:
As a family nurse practitioner, I have a broader perspective of a patient’s
health and well-being. I understand that physical and mental health can
often overlap and affect each othersignificantly. My approach is to focus
on the patient as a whole rather than trying to just “fix” a specific problem.
Some mental health symptoms benefit from a physiological workup
before simply treating with medications. I am a firm believer in managing
patient’s psychiatric conditions with a combination of pharmaceutical
and non-pharmaceutical treatment options. I have become proficient in
treating patients with the least amount of medication by utilizing
medications that cover symptoms related to comorbid conditions.
A little about me:
I have lived in the treasure valley for the
majority of my life. I currently live in Nampa
with my wife, four children, and two dogs.
Outside of the clinic I enjoy spending time
with my family. We love outdoor activities
including bike riding, camping, and water
sports. I also enjoy working with my hands
and am constantly doing DIY home
improvement projects in my spare time.
